Hibernation

Today "Daisy" Sea-Doo goes into hibernation for the winter. She will be staying in a co-worker's barn for the winter out of the weather. Winterization is complete so I go out this morning to Tusket Motor Sports to get her.
"Windfall" will be performing at a benefit at the Yarmouth Legion on November 17th, 2006. Hope to see some of you there.
The NHL season is underway and my beloved Canadiens are off to a decent start. Watching the games makes the winter more enjoyable.
Heating systems are kicking in no doubt. My stove is going this morning as I type.
I have a Sea-Doo to tend to, so will head out. Take care folks!

Doggone It!

Kids say the darndest things! I have dressed up as "Sparky" the fire dog at the end of our fire prevention talks at the schools this week. Wanna know what one kid asked? She looked up and asked "Are you a real dog?" Well I could hardly contain myself from bursting out laughing inside that costume!
I sure got alot of hugs from the little tykes which makes it so worthwhile.
The theme of Fire Prevention week this year is "Watch What You Cook". Cooking accidents are a major cause of fires - so be careful. Especially grease - hopefully everyone has a deep fryer rather than using an open pot for french fries and such.
It's amazing how much the little ones remember from previous years talks - and the primary kids who are there for the first time are really special!
Don't forget the torch light parade Friday (tomorrow) night.
Bye!

FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!

It's Fire Prevention week. I sure saw an interesting segment on the news tonight. In Summerside, PEI, there was a re-enactment of a firefighting effort of 100 years ago. The actors were in period attire. At that time there were neighborhood patrols to watch for fires. When one was spotted, volunteer brigades were summoned to fight the fire using horse and even men drawn apparatus. The pumps were even operated by hand with 8 or so men. The re-enactment was marvelous, with the old pumps actually brought to the scene by manpower alone and actually set up to pump water! It was a blast to see water being pumped to the roof of a house with one of those manual water pumps. They have much of this old equipment I'm talking about at the firefighters museum. There was even smoke billowing from the house ( artificial of course). A woman went around to neighboring homes pounding on the doors and yelling "FIRE! FIRE!
And yes, to get as much water on the fire as possible, a bucket brigade was set up. This was a line of people with buckets of water handing each full bucket down the line with the person at the end pouring the buckets of water on the fire as best he could and as fast as he was handed them! They did not have the protective gear we have now and had to make do with what they had.
By the way, the re-enactment lasted an hour and the actors were "exhausted".

Rodeo - etc.

Here is a picture that brings back some musical memories! A picture of the band Rodeo consisting of (L to R) Robyn Dillanger, Myra LeBlanc, Jerry Boudreau (kneeling), and of course the Fireguy - circa 2002. I played music for a number of years with Jerry in particular and he was always a great guy to work with. I believe he is now in France where he and his wife bought a house.

It was nice to have a long weekend - Travelling Man and I went to visit Frank and Sue on Sunday night. Today I did a little "Geocaching" and did some work on my music tonight - refining my guitar sounds and working on the "steel" guitar a bit. One of the songs I'm working on for steel guitar is the Vince Gill song "Kindly Keep It Country". Limewire that one and give it a listen - the steel guitar is awesome in that tune! I am hoping that my band "Windfall" will pick it up.

It's back to work tomorrow so time for bed - bye for now.
